Helen's Story

Helen HunterHelen became a League of Women Voters Life Member in 2012. Life members are those members who have fifty years or more of active membership. Helen is a past co-president of LWVCA.

The following is Helen Hunter's Acceptance Speech of her Life Membership at 2012 Annual Meeting

"I joined the League shortly after we moved to Cincinnati when my husband began his career at Procter & Gamble. As a stay-at-home mom, I found the League's focus on important issues stimulating and welcome.

"Also, I think I might have inherited a League gene from my mother. I have a pin that I found in her sewing basket that bears the slogan, `Votes for Women.' She must have been a teenage supporter of the constitutional amendment that gave women the right to vote. Her involvement in community issues during my childhood may have influenced me to become active in the League.

"I found many places to learn and serve, both within the League and outside as a representative of the League. Thank you for this opportunity."
